Recognition is another milestone in the University’s ongoing commitment to educational excellence, quality assurance, institutional improvement and leadership in online education
University of Phoenix earned recognition in the Hallmarks of Excellence in Online Education Leadership set by the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA). The determination by UPCEA followed an intensive six-month comprehensive review program, which included an evaluation of the University’s online enterprise and interviews with its faculty, staff, and administration by a review team of experts in distance education.
“Over the past four years of new ownership and academic leadership, University of Phoenix has emphasized curricular quality and faculty development that has resulted in remarkable improvements,” said Ray Schroeder, senior fellow for UPCEA and professor emeritus/associate vice chancellor for online learning, University of Illinois-Springfield. “Implementing the best practices that are represented in the Hallmarks of Excellence in Online Leadership, the university is focused on initiatives that serve students well; challenges faculty to engage in excellence in both their teaching and scholarship; and engages the larger academic community through research, publications and presentations.”
University of Phoenix has been offering online education programs since 1989. As a pioneer and leader in the online education sector, the University meets or exceeds the rigorous Hallmarks of Excellence set by UPCEA, the association for professional, continuing, and online education which serves more than 450 member institutions and organizations.
Founded in 1915, UPCEA has served most of the leading public and private colleges and universities in North America. The association serves its members with innovative conferences and specialty seminars, research and benchmarking information, professional networking opportunities and timely publications. Based in Washington, D.C., UPCEA also builds greater awareness of the vital link between contemporary learners and public policy issues.
“While we are proud to meet the rigorous standards required of university online enterprises across all education sectors, we hold ourselves to even higher standards of continuous institutional improvement,” said Peter Cohen, president of University of Phoenix. “This recognition is another milestone in our long history of excellence in online education, but we’re not stopping there. The University is constantly innovating to ensure our online enterprise is positioned to provide the highest quality student outcomes and experience.”
